The Media Unit is the primary point of contact for news organisations. All media enquiries must come through the Media Unit in the first instance. This includes:

  • Requests for interviews
  • Photo requests of staff, patients or our facilities
  • General enquiries about health issues
  • Any condition updates on patients who have been injured in an accident or are otherwise of interest to the media

Please do not call our hospitals directly as they are not allowed to provide this information.

Staff are not permitted to speak to journalists or representatives of media organisations without the knowledge or permission of the Media Officer.

An On-Call Media Officer is available after normal business hours to assist media with urgent enquiries. This is organised on a roster basis and the correct person to contact is available via a voicemail message on 0411 119 592.

Palliative Care Volunteers Complete Training In Dareton

New Cohort of Dareton Community Palliative Care Volunteers complete Induction Training

A new cohort of Community Palliative Care Volunteers has completed the 25 hour Induction Training Program with Far West Local Health District to prepare them for volunteering in the Dareton community.

Three new volunteers will join the existing Community Palliative Care volunteer team who support palliative care patients. The volunteer team has been doing this since 2019.

The volunteers graduated recently and were presented a Certificate of Completion indicating they are ready to commence visits with palliative patients in the community.

Patients living at home who are receiving Specialist Palliative Care Services are eligible for Community Palliative Care Volunteer Services, said Janeen Norris, Palliative Care Volunteer Coordinator.

She said a volunteer and a patient are matched to ensure compassionate and person centred support for the patient and their carers to enhance their quality of life.

“The volunteers are all excellent listeners, warm, empathetic and compassionate people with a strong commitment to volunteering with palliative care services”.

Melissa Cumming, Program Director Cancer and Palliative Care Services in Far West LHD congratulated the dedicated team of volunteers on completion of their training.

“I wish to thank everyone for their dedication to the comprehensive volunteer training and wish them well in their future palliative care volunteer roles,” she said.

For more information about the Palliative Care Volunteer Service or if you are interested in volunteering with Palliative Care, please contact Janeen Norris, Community Palliative Care Volunteer Coordinator on 50217217 or by email at janeen.norris@health.nsw.gov.au
