Broken Hill Hospital Kiosk Auxiliary $125,450 Donation For Hospital

The Broken Hill Hospital Kiosk volunteers have once more presented a significant donation to the Broken Hill Health Service to buy equipment for use across its services.

The cheque for $125,000 was today presented to Mr Umit Agis, Chief Executive Far West LHD by Kiosk Auxiliary Public Officer Mr Dennis Roach and other Kiosk representatives.

Kiosk representatives present $125,450 to the Broken Hill Health Service to buy equipment for patients (from left): Steve Bennetts (Kiosk Treasurer), Amelia Butler (Kiosk member), Colleen Pedler (Kiosk Vice President), Pamela Charnock (BHHS Facility Manager), Dennis Roach (Kiosk Public Officer) and Far West LHD Chief Executive, Umit Agis.

The money (donated for 2020-21 financial year) will buy the following equipment requested in a ‘wish list’ to the Kiosk Auxiliary:

  • Drager Isolette 8000 plus - $20,598.97 (Maternity Ward)

  • 9 x Connex Vital Signs Monitors - $43,021.43 (Wards)

  • 3 x Pegasus Mattress systems - $25,905 (Wards)

  • 15 x Fresenius VP Infusion Pumps - $22,125 (various departments)

  • 3 x Invisbeam Birdie Alarms - $6,000 (various departments)

  • 2 x Fresenius PCA Syringe Pumps - $6,000 (various departments)

  • 6 x Patient televisions - $1,800 (Wards).

Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Manager BHHS, Pamela Charnock, said the health service is extremely grateful for all the work the Kiosk volunteers do.

“The donation presented today to buy equipment we use across the whole hospital is incredible. We say it all the time that our health service could not run as well as it does without the contribution of all our volunteers.

“We are in awe of their continued hard work and commitment to helping make our services better with this donation and the equipment we buy with it,” she said.

“On behalf of the Broken Hill Health Service and the Far West LHD, I sincerely thank all the volunteers and the Kiosk Auxiliary for their generous donation.”

The volunteers were extremely happy that they are still able to make a significant contribution to the hospital, all whilst dealing with the impact of COVID-19, said Kiosk Auxiliary Public Officer, Mr Dennis Roach.

“We were closed for nearly a year and were worried about the long term impact and the effect it would have on our volunteers as well,” he said.

“We’re back in business and the volunteers were very pleased they could once again make a large donation to the BH hospital. They all love working in the Kiosk and even more when we see our hard work allows this equipment to be purchased. On behalf of the Kiosk Auxiliary, I personally can’t thank them all enough for their hard work in getting us reopened and commitment to keeping the Kiosk going.”

The last significant donation by the Kiosk Auxiliary to the BH Hospital occurred in June 2019 when it donated $141,848 to buy equipment. That donation brought the donations by the Kiosk to the Hospital in just the last ten years to a grand total of $1,752,500. The Kiosk Auxiliary donated $166,500 in the 2017/18 financial year and $176,464 in the 2016-17 financial year.

Mr Roach reminded the public the Kiosk Auxiliary is always looking for volunteers and anyone interested can contact him on 0402 224 142.
