Media

The Far West LHD Media Unit is responsible for all media inquiries and interviews with Far West LHD staff members. The Unit regularly advises on major public health issues and disease outbreaks, through media releases, media conferences and, sometimes, special telephone hotlines.

The Media Unit is the primary point of contact for news organisations. All media enquiries must come through the Media Unit in the first instance. This includes:

  • Requests for interviews
  • Photo requests of staff, patients or our facilities
  • General enquiries about health issues
  • Any condition updates on patients who have been injured in an accident or are otherwise of interest to the media

Please do not call our hospitals directly as they are not allowed to provide this information.

Staff are not permitted to speak to journalists or representatives of media organisations without the knowledge or permission of the Media Officer.

An On-Call Media Officer is available after normal business hours to assist media with urgent enquiries. This is organised on a roster basis and the correct person to contact is available via a voicemail message on 0411 119 592.

Far West Lhd Congratulates Aci Clinical Redesign Graduates


The Far West Local Health District congratulates staff members Georgina Drewery and Michael Spencer who were awarded a Graduate Certificate (Clinical Redesign) from the ACI (Agency for Clinical Innovation) Centre for HealthCare Redesign School at a ceremony in Sydney on 14 December 2018.

Their graduation project was titled: ‘Better Cardiac Care for Aboriginal People’ Burlu Kirra Kirra/NA’ which aims to improve patient outcomes for Aboriginal people with cardiac conditions in Far West LHD, starting with the Broken Hill catchment region, by providing access to a cultural specific program in the identified communities.

Prior to the project implementation there was no cultural specific Aboriginal Cardiac Rehabilitation program in the LHD. The need was identified as there was poor attendance and completion by Aboriginal people with the current mainstream program at the Broken Hill Health Service.

The project included extensive consultation with consumers which showed that local Aboriginal people wanted an Aboriginal specific cardiac rehabilitation program in the community and Broken Hill Health Service. Implementation of this project will commence in early 2019.

The ACI CHR School supports the efforts to continue to build capability for system-wide design and improvement. Local health services should be commended for continuously investing in their people to learn new skills and methods of collaborative working that can drive change and improvements across every sector of healthcare. The certificate is conferred through the University of Tasmania.
