  • Requests for interviews
  • Photo requests of staff, patients or our facilities
  • General enquiries about health issues
  • Any condition updates on patients who have been injured in an accident or are otherwise of interest to the media

Please do not call our hospitals directly as they are not allowed to provide this information.

An On-Call Media Officer is available after normal business hours to assist media with urgent enquiries. This is organised on a roster basis and the correct person to contact is available via a voicemail message on 0411 119 592.

Dementia Awareness Month - You Are Not Alone

Dementia Awareness Month – You are not alone

Display stall for information and advice in hospital on Friday, 23 September

The Far West Local Health District wants to help focus attention on dementia and raise awareness of the support and services available for people with dementia and their families and carers.

September is Dementia Awareness Month and the theme is “You are not alone”.

“This theme aims to raise awareness of the supports and service available for people with dementia and their families and carers,” said Michele McKee, Far West LHD Manager Aged Care Services.

More than 353,800 Australians live with dementia and 1.2 million Australians are involved in the care of someone with dementia. This number is projected to reach more than 900,000 by 2050.

“Dementia awareness month aims to focus on people with dementia, their carers and families and the general public by sharing the facts, dispelling the myths and highlighting the support Alzheimer’s Australia can provide living with dementia and their carers,” she said.

Information and advice in Hospital foyer on Friday

An information display and free sausage sizzle is being held in the Broken Hill Hospital foyer on Friday (23 September) from 10am to 1pm to support Dementia Awareness Month.

Far West LHD staff including the District’s Aged Care Emergency Team, Regional Assessment Service, Carer Support Officer and Volunteer Manager will be present to talk to the public. Information on dementia support and services will be available as well.

Dementia Awareness Month is organised by Alzheimer’s Australia and is supported by the Australian Government to improve awareness and understanding about dementia in the Australian community. Alzheimer’s Australia is the peak body for people with dementia, their families and carers. It provides advocacy, support services, education and information.
